Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life. As a bride, it will be all eyes on you, and you will want to look and feel your absolute best. Your wedding album will be a treasured keepsake of the day, you will want to look amazing in the photographs so you can look back and smile, not look back and cringe! From my many years experience as a professional makeup artist who has done many, many brides, I have compiled my top ten list of “I do’s” wedding makeup tips.
Beautiful makeup starts with beautiful skin. As soon as your fiance gets up from his bended knee, you should be booking regular facials and investing in the best skincare you can afford. Radiant, well moisturised skin makes for the most beautiful brides.
It is so important to try out makeup artists to ensure you are happy with their work and service. Have your wedding makeup trial 4 - 8 weeks before your wedding. However if you are shopping around for a makeup artist early, why not book a special occasion makeup for a night out or special event? Cheaper than booking a wedding makeup trial, and you can see how you feel about their work/personality/service.
If you are having a spray tan before your wedding, have a trial of that also a day or two before your makeup trial. This way you will have a perfect idea of how you will look on the day. Also consider wearing a white top to your trial, as light reflects from your clothing and affects how your skin and makeup look. Book your wedding makeup trial during the day as well so you can see how it looks in daylight and test it's longevity.
Bring lots of images! Makeup artists love to see your point of reference and get an idea of the style of makeup you love. Expert tip: try to find images of models with similar colouring to yourself, as their makeup shades will best suit you too.
Consider having semipermanent eyelash extensions applied, rather than strip lashes. They look and feel so natural and beautiful, and will do for your honeymoon as well. I offer discounts on this service to all of my brides and their bridal party, as well as discounts on brow grooming services. Please contact me for more information!
Getting married abroad? Want to do your own makeup? Book a personal makeup lesson to learn how to perfectly apply your wedding makeup. Or if you don't fancy doing it yourself, bring a friend or family member so they can learn how to apply it instead! I also offer group makeup lessons, which is a perfect way for your bridal party to master their makeup at once. Great idea for a small hen party as well.
Be honest with your makeup artist. If you dislike something they have done, or want something lighter/darker just tell them. A good makeup artist will be happy to change and adapt their work to suit you. Remember, your wedding makeup needs to be slightly stronger than what you usually wear (for photos), but you should still look like yourself. The absolutely best and most radiant version of yourself!
Go for a classic look. Makeup trends change every season, you don't want your wedding photos to date. A slightly winged liner and defined eyes will always look good. Avoid too pale nude lips as well, opt for a satin lipstick a shade or two deeper than your natural lip colour to create natural definition that looks great on photographs.
Let your bridesmaids wear makeup that suits them. The makeup need not match exactly, but should all tone in nicely with one another. A professional makeup artist will know how to enhance each bridesmaid's individual features, yet create a cohesive look that suits all. The lip colour does not need to match the dresses/flowers/colour theme exactly either, but compliment the overall scheme of the wedding.
