I first heard of Makeup Geek products via a Facebook group called 'In My Kit'. It is an American brand with a cult following of makeup artists and enthusiaists. Their eye shadows in particular a very popular. They are half the price of MAC shadows, and they have many dupes for the popular shades. Just search 'makeup geek mac dupes' on Pinterest and you will see many many helpful pins of swatches!
Just before Christmas last year, Makeup Geek was finally launched in the UK via Beauty Bay, an online makeup extravaganza! As soon as they went live, I tried to order some products, however they sold out before I could complete my purchase! I waited for them to reup their stocks, and then life got in the way of makeup shopping. So I only recently treated my kit to two Makeup Geek Duochrome Shadow Pans.
The shade I lusted after the most was Havoc, a stunning combo of copper and green. Like a verdigris effect if you will. This has been touted as a dupe for MAC's Club, however I can tell you, and you can see in the photos, that it is a far superior product in terms of texture and pigmentation! It looks beautiful on its own, but when buffed over a black gel liner, the green becomes very rich and metallic. It has a sheen like a black beetle's shell. That is a weird reference, but it makes total sense!
I also picked up Voltage, a pale silvery gold. This will be fabulous as a highlighter for brow bones, cheek bones, and tear ducts. It changes from silver to gold in the light. Also when applied onto black gel liner, it goes a very bright gold. This would make a fun eye liner!
These shadows are buttery in texture, and EXTREMELY pigmented. They come in loose pans, which are the same size as MAC pans. They fit fabulously in a magnetic palette, I personally love the Make Up For Ever palettes. They are a much more powerful product than MAC eye shadows, the payout is massive from these pans!!!! I will definitely be investing in more as I need to replace my MAC shadows. Much much better value at £4.95 each.
Makeup Geek also do blusher pans and brushes, and I think I will try those next. There is just so much makeup and not enough money or time to play with it all! This is the reality of a makeup addict/junkie/artist/hoarder.
